Ed Stafford
Explorer & Adventurer
Profile:
Ed Stafford from Leicestershire is bidding to be the first man in history to walk the length of the Amazon River from the soutrce to the sea. His expedition has been described as the most dangerous ever undertaken. "Walking the Amazon" will have taken well over three years of Ed's life by the time it is over. It is the longest jungle expedition ever attempted and the first time in history that anyone has walked this route. With a laptop for comany, Ed has blogged weekly from the jungle and uploaded video to school children around the world.
As a former British Army captain and expedition leader, 'Walking The Amazon' has shifted Ed's focus from managing and leading teams in dangerous environments to using his expedition skills to educate over environmental matters and to inspire other people to achieve the seemingly impossible. In 2009 Ed was asked to write an additional regular blog for children for the Prince's Rainforests Project.
His future expedition plans are a closely guarded secret at this time, but future expeditions will certainly involve extreme conditions, lunatic odds, and will never have been done before. All will have the underlying aims of inspiring and educating about the world around us.
